Action Action anime usually involve a fairly straightforward story of good guys versus bad guys, where most disputes are resolved by using physical force. Having a special attack is always a must but not impressive enough. Every special attack needs a name. A really awesome and outstanding name which is easy to remember and even easier and impressive to yell. Because it just is not enough to name your attack. No, to unleash the full power of your attack, you have to call its name in your most MANLY and LOUDEST voice.

It does not matter whether it is a martial arts move, a magical spell or flying drills from your mecha, if you can`t call its name, it just isn`t nearly as cool or effective. Not a requirement but wearing shades while calling your attack makes it at least twice as cool, moreover giving your mecha or magical companion shades too results in an immeasurable level of awesomeness, bringing down every enemy just through the POWER OF YOUR VOICE.

A standard feature of practically every mecha, mahou shoujo, high fantasy, or martial arts anime. classic It may be a good animation, soundtrack or story or all of them at once or serious lack of them. Whatever the case, this anime deserves its place in the history of Japanese animation. collateral damage The usually action orientated anime does not only show large amounts of combat and weapon use, but also the incidental massive destruction of property, often due to the inability of the protagonists to aim properly.

Example: Mecha duking it out in a densely populated urban area. defence of the ancients no description set yet dragon slave solution no description set yet glutton Used as comedy element, one of the characters really "digs in" when it comes to food. This can be quite hilarious, when the usually female protagonist loses all inhibitions concerning food. great supporting character One or more of the supporting cast is quite memorable. lightsabre Sci-fi weapon based on a sword or sabre, but uses a "beam of light" (magnetically "locked" plasma) instead of a normal blade. A very powerful close-combat weapon, "from a better, more civilised time". medium awareness Characters are briefly aware of the media they are in — but do not necessarily perceive the audience as in "breaking the fourth wall"-trope.

Suddenly they may say at some point of the anime that the background music is scary or too loud, comment that the narration or the script given to them is ridiculous or someone is not following it at all, see the subtitles at the bottom of the screen, say it is time for the commercials now, whine about TL-notes and even their own seiyuus, say that static screens, used effects and animation are pure crap, perhaps even using the medium for their advantage (hitting sweat drops against others... crazy!)... to name a few eccentricities. philosopher`s stone The philosopher`s stone, reputed to be hard as stone and malleable as wax, is a legendary alchemical tool, supposedly capable of turning base metals into gold; it was also sometimes believed to be an elixir of life, useful for rejuvenation and possibly for achieving immortality. spellcasting The magic version of “call your attacks”. The protagonist will explicitly call out the magical incantation for the spells. strong female lead The lead female character has a strong personality and plays a part that is not the typical damsel-in-distress role.

This is the exact opposite of the “damsel in distress” tag. violent female lead The female main character — though possibly quite cute and "nice" at times — is prone to violent behaviour, usually against some male character(s).

Often quite typical of a `tsundere`.
