Based on a manga series authored by Yoshino Hiroyuki and featuring art by Kenetsu Satou. The manga is serialised in the shounen manga magazine Champion Red.
The story takes place on the grounds of St. Mihailov Academy, a Japanese Eastern Orthodox school, and draws heavily on religious references from the aforementioned religion. Here it follows the trials and hardship of two of its students, Oribe Mafuyu and Tomo Yamanobe, until the encounter with a mysterious, silver-haired, Russian boy named Alexander, or Sasha for short. This pits them and the whole school in an all-out war between the Church itself and the so-called "Adepts", a sect of individuals wielding powers linked to the elements of chemistry.
Categories
Action
Action anime usually involve a fairly straightforward story of good guys versus bad guys, where most disputes are resolved by using physical force. It often contains a lot of shooting, explosions and fighting.
Boing
The sound breasts make when they bounce. Size may vary, but mainly involves larger breasts in tight or otherwise sexy clothing. Partial or complete exposure may occur, usually emphasizing the boing-effect as they come out. Not capable of bouncing means no boing.
Ecchi
Ecchi, or etchi (エッチ), is a common Japanese word meaning "indecent", "lewd", "frisky" or "sexy", while its usage can be compared to the word "naughty". The term is used when vague sexual content, such as skimpy clothing or nudity, is prominent.
Gigantic Breasts
Focus on unnaturally large breasts. Usually involves early developed adolescent girls or older women.
Large Breasts
Focus on larger than average breasts. Pretty common in anime. Usually involves adolescent girls or fully grown women.
Lolicon
Loli is a short form of the word Lolita, describing sexually precocious young girls. The related fetish for this is called Lolicon (Lolita Complex).
Nudity
Nudity is the state of wearing no clothing. Based on scientific research it is estimated that humans have been wearing clothing for 650,000 years. It is related to the concept of modesty and is sometimes used to refer to wearing significantly less clothing than expected by the conventions of a particular culture and situation, and in particular exposing the bare skin or intimate parts.
Especially gracious fanservice shows tend to show their, mostly female, characters, most often without any clothes, only hiding genitals through the means of additions like steam.
Original Work: Manga
Manga is the lifeblood that drives the anime industry. Everything and its mother is based on manga. However! There are exceptions where the manga was not the basis for the anime.
It`s common practice to make manga adaptations of many popular anime, there`s a manga based on Evangelion, and two (one shounen and one shoujo) based on each of Escaflowne and Mahou Tsukai Tai. Also it`s quite common to release manga and anime versions of a story in parallel, for instance Nadesico and Shoujo Kakumei Utena.
Pantsu
"Panties" in Japanese. Upskirt views in various positions are typical, however all forms of partial or fully exposed panties are accepted. Exposure is usually accidental, but may also be deliberate. Pantsu views may be exclusive to the viewer without impacting any characters. Bikinis are not pantsu.
Russia
Russia is the largest country in the world. This includes the Asian part, with Siberia as its far-east part and the European part before the Ural mountain range, with its capital Moscow.
School Life
Since a large part of the anime audience still takes part in school life or is visiting college, it is only natural to choose a setting the audience can identify with, be it elementary, middle, or high school. For the older viewers a college setting with more mature real-life problems is appropriate. And since clubs take up so much time in the lives of students, these are obviously also important.
Shotacon
Shota, describing sexually precocious young boys. The related fetish for this is called Shotacon (Shoutarou Complex).
Shounen
A style of anime and manga intended for boys, characterized by high-action, often humorous plots featuring male protagonists. The camaraderie between boys or men on sports teams, fighting squads, etc. is often emphasized. Unrealistically attractive female characters are also common (see fanservice), but are not a requirement. The art style of shounen also tends to be less flowery than that of shoujo.
Super Power
Be it an ancient Greek Hercules, a cybernetic muscle-man, or a fourteen year-old girl in a mini-skirted sailor suit. As long as they have super powers, they`re in the show.
Time: Present
Somewhere between past and future
Violence
Physical force against self or other, compelling action against one`s will on pain of being hurt.
Tags
boobs in your face
The protagonists face is pressed into a female`s cleavage. This may be accidental, or actually intended by the female character.
borderline hentai
Breaks the bounds of "excessive fanservice".
While the physical interactions and dialogue between characters may be extremely sexual, the most sexual situations do NOT have sex itself take place.
Specifically descriptive of containing all the plentiful features of (excessive) fanservice in addition to the interactions between characters being quite sexual - at most, sexual in NATURE only. This means physical touching such as groping, molesting, or bondage will focus primarily on the revealed (i.e. nude) upper portion of the body or through/over clothing on the lower half of the body. This is all WITHOUT actual sex acts (penetration, etc) taking place.
breast fondling
Part of the slapstick comedy in ecchi anime between female characters. E.g. a girl envious of another girl`s bust size may tease the latter via fondling. Usually playful and mischievous, not sexual.
Alas, now the tag can also imply "boob grabbing", where a male character will either accidentally or intentionally touch the breasts of a female. The former is a comedy element, as in "accidental infringement", the latter can be interpreted as a form of harassment.
Christianity
Christianity is a monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth as presented in the New Testament. Christians believe Jesus is the son of God, God having become man and the saviour of humanity. Christians, therefore, commonly refer to Jesus as Christ or Messiah. (source: Wikipedia)
damsel in distress
The damsel in distress is usually a young, nubile woman placed in a dire predicament by a villain or a monster and requires a hero to dash to her rescue. Often used to unite the cast of a show for this one goal, to make them put differences aside and become a band of nakama.
Examples: Sakoshita Yanagi from Rekka no Honoo, Yuuki Miaka from Fushigi Yuugi or Higurashi Kagome from Inuyasha.
dark-skinned girl
The anime features a girl with a dark skin.
excessive fanservice
Content that may be suggestive yet generally pleasing will be found in abundance. Usually this is the premise of something borderline-hentai with a large amount of strong sexual themes but without any actual sex-acts taking place.
As the -Fanservice tag- states:
`Fan Service` typically consists of a variety of racy or sexual content - usually female but sometimes male - aimed to catch the viewer`s attention, with something suggestive and generally `pleasing to the eyes`. More often than not this involves nudity, yet can simply have to do with panty shots / flashing of undergarments, bathing suits, the jiggling of breasts, or other such eye candy.
While the term is used primarily with respect to Japanese animation, any gratuitous content within entertainment may be considered to be `fan service`.
flashback
The characters remember things from their past triggering a flashback. The anime either repeats scenes from previous episodes (danger of too many "fillers"), or actually shows new footage from very old memories.
freak of the week
On a pretty much regular basis — weekly or episodic — the protagonists are confronted by some "strange being", usually in an all-out battle.
This can make the anime quite repetitive.
heterochromia
May often refer to characters with more than one colour in an eye or two eyes of entirely different colours.
Can also describe instances of portraying everyday scenery with unusual colours to draw attention or set a certain mood.
lots of blood
This anime contains a fair amount of bloody scenes.
master-servant relationship
To some genres, this would suggest a genuine pairing where one person exists to serve another person, such as in some action/dramas where the pair becomes united by destiny as partners - fighting or battles between different pairs/partners will usually be a dominant part of the story.
In other genres, this suggests a relationship where one person may be occupied as or even forcefully treated as a servant or slave to the other who designates themself the master - these services usually apply anywhere from tsundere/romantic-comedies to ecchi or to the more extreme in hentai.
nosebleed girl
Comedy element: One of the female characters - often in a school setting - will show an excessive emotion reaction to something. This form of "excitement" will make her nose bleed.
Examples: Girl sees a bishounen, or when it comes to shoujo ai, sees another girl (bishoujo) in a daring pose.
Usually, boys will show such a reaction when e.g. seeing a pretty girl. In this case the reverse situation is quite rare by comparison.
oppai pillow
Japanese for "breast" pillow.
parental abandonment
In Japan it is a common custom for parents to leave their children alone at home and embark on a lifelong trip around the world once they hit the tender age of 14, sometimes even earlier.
Pocky
Pocky — Japanese snack food consisting of a pretzel stick coated with chocolate — is seen on screen.
predominantly female cast
The anime features a mostly female cast, i.e. male characters are rare.
Example: A Catholic all-girls school setting.
ridiculous premise
The principal ideas used to set up the overall story are questionable at best, and are difficult to accept as rational.
It seems that the writers involved in this anime were desperate to find a new idea, creating an outlandish story background. Such an irrational plot can become quite irritating.
scythe
A scythe is an agricultural hand tool for mowing grass or reaping crops. It was largely replaced by horse-drawn and then tractor machinery, but is still used in some areas of Europe and Asia (source Wikipedia).
The personification of death usually has one at hand.
sexual innuendo
References to actions and/or situations of an intimate or sexual nature.
timeout available
Even in the middle of battle, lengthy discussions and planning sessions occur, while the opponents presumably stand around and take a coffee break.
tsundere
A character type (usually female), who is often easily agitated or combative, but other times is quite kind and caring, especially in situations involving a person they are (knowingly or unknowingly) attracted to.
Note: There is a "male tsundere" tag for males.
TV censoring
The TV version is censored and later DVD/BD releases are uncensored, so the money-grubbing capitalists can make a couple more bucks at our expense.
yuri subtext
Actions between two female characters that could be taken as or misinterpreted as being amorous in nature.
zettai ryouiki
Japanese for "absolute area", and refers to an area of bare skin on the legs between a skirt and knee- or thigh high stockings.
