Ash Ketchum is now 10 years old and is able to start on a new journey as a Pokémon trainer. On his first day Ash slept through his alarm and missed his chance to get one of the three Kanto starter Pokémon: Charmander, Bulbasaur or Squirtle. However, Professor Oak had one last Pokémon at his lab, a Pikachu. At first Pikachu did not get along with Ash, but over the course of the season Ash gained Pikachu's trust and they became best friends, developing a special bond. On the way Ash meets Misty, the Cerulean City Gym Leader who loves water Pokémon and wants to join him until he'll pay for her bike which was accidentally destroyed by Pikachu, and Brock, the Pewter City Gym Leader who wants to join Ash on his journey so he can become the greatest Pokémon breeder. Ash catches and makes friends with many Pokémon which sets him up for a great adventure. However, through his journey he has to deal with the Team Rocket trio of Jessie, James, and Meowth, and his childhood rival, Gary Oak, Prof. Oak's grandson who also is a Pokémon Trainer that always seems two steps ahead of Ash. After obtaining all 8 Kanto Gym Badges needed to compete in the Pokémon League at Indigo Plateau, Ash reaches the top 16, losing out to a close friend, Ritchie.
Categories Action Action anime usually involve a fairly straightforward story of good guys versus bad guys, where most disputes are resolved by using physical force. It often contains a lot of shooting, explosions and fighting. Comedy Anime whose central struggle causes hilarious results. These stories are built upon funny characters, situations and events. A comedy anime is laced with humour and sets out to provoke laughter from the audience. Japanese humour can be a bit strange to westerners, so if you`re new to this type of humour, just bear with it; it`ll most likely grow on you if you`re a fan of other kinds of comedy. Fantasy Magic and other supernatural forms are primary elements of plot, theme and/or setting. Distinguished from science fiction and horror by not involving scientific or macabre themes respectively, though the three genres can often overlap each other to some extent. Fantasy World A fantasy world is a type of imaginary world, part of a fictional universe. Typical worlds involve, but are not limited to magic or magical abilities and a medieval theme. Some worlds may be a parallel world tenuously connected to Earth via magical portals or items; a fictional Earth set in the remote past or future; or an entirely independent world set in another universe. Many fantasy worlds draw heavily on real world history, geography and sociology, and also on folklore. Original Work: Game Based on an interactive (even if minimally so) form of entertainment software, generally available for PCs, consoles or arcade machines. Original Work: RPG Any anime that is based on a role-playing game aka RPG. A role-playing video game is a video game which includes elements of non-electronic role-playing games. The player assumes control of one or several fictional characters (a party) who have joined forces in order to perform quests and overcome a great number of challenges and enemies, usually monsters inspired by fantasy, and, to a lesser extent, science fiction and classic mythology. During the course of the game the characters, or avatars, which are generally defined by quantized characteristics, evolve and improve in that their various attributes increase, as well as by gaining more powerful artefacts. Plot Continuity Consistency of the characteristics of persons, plot, objects, places and events seen by the viewer. A single linear focused plot is highly continuous. A truly random plot is highly discontinuous. Proxy Battles In our terms, a proxy battle is a battle where humans use creatures/robots to do the fighting for them, either by commanding those creatures/robots or by simply evolving them/changing them into battle mode. Often the training aspect is also involved, or in some cases the proxies are nothing more than holographic representatives of some other variation of competition (like for example a card game). While many popular shounen anime fit under this category, it`s not limited to shounen anime. Shounen A style of anime and manga intended for boys, characterized by high-action, often humorous plots featuring male protagonists. The camaraderie between boys or men on sports teams, fighting squads, etc. is often emphasized. Unrealistically attractive female characters are also common (see fanservice), but are not a requirement. The art style of shounen also tends to be less flowery than that of shoujo. Tags annoying villain One or more adversaries in this anime show a particularly high level of annoying character traits. calling your attacks "GIGAAAAAA DRIIIIIILLL BREAKEEEEEERRR"
Having a special attack is always a must but not impressive enough. Every special attack needs a name. A really awesome and outstanding name which is easy to remember and even easier and impressive to yell. Because it just is not enough to name your attack. No, to unleash the full power of your attack, you have to call its name in your most MANLY and LOUDEST voice.
It does not matter whether it is a martial arts move, a magical spell or flying drills from your mecha, if you can`t call its name, it just isn`t nearly as cool or effective. Not a requirement but wearing shades while calling your attack makes it at least twice as cool, moreover giving your mecha or magical companion shades too results in an immeasurable level of awesomeness, bringing down every enemy just through the POWER OF YOUR VOICE.
A standard feature of practically every mecha, mahou shoujo, high fantasy, or martial arts anime. drill A drill is a reoccurring theme in this anime, be it as weapon of a mecha or cyborg, or as a non-fetish-related machine. episodic The episodes do not present a continuous storyline, but an episodic one. The characters and setting stay the same, and each episode (or sub-episodic segment) presents a new short story. gotta catch `em all A typical plot or sub-plot for many shows. Either the cast or somebody else, that being often the main antagonist, embarks on a quest to collect things, shiny things. Things that are said to grant simple wishes or even do miracles like bringing people back to life, destroying the whole world, galaxy, universe and in rare cases turning the hero into the greatest Pokemon Master. Those things can be weapons, lost technology, magical artefacts, pieces of a giant magical artefact and in some cases even people or little critters.
The point is, there`s stuff to collect! I want to be The main character wants to be leader, ultimate fighter, professional baker, etc. imaginary creatures no description set yet lethal cooking Some characters, most often than not the otherwise perfect beauty out of the main character`s harem, simply do not have any skills for cooking. Not only does anything they do turn out dangerously bad for anyone who dares to taste it, they also seem to ignite anything they try to cook, even when there is no fire or heat involved.
A common element in anime which most often comes together with a cooking episode where other characters try to teach said character much needed skills to cook. Needless to say, it usually fails. may cause epileptic seizures no description set yet merchandising show The anime is about merchandise - be it cards, stuffed toys, futuristic gyroscopes or something even more unexpected. narration The most common example is that of a voice, either that of one of the characters or entirely unrelated, that appears at the beginning of an episode to offer a summary or introduction, and at the end of an episode for closure or for a preview to hint upon what to expect next.
Another use of narration comes in the form of a dominant voice belonging to one of the protagonists, intended only for the viewer and revealing the intimate thoughts to whom it belongs. This type of narration occurs frequently throughout the duration of the episode or movie. parental abandonment In Japan it is a common custom for parents to leave their children alone at home and embark on a lifelong trip around the world once they hit the tender age of 14, sometimes even earlier. perpetual ongoing No end in sight! No matter what the genre may be or what the storyline consists of, this series just keeps on going... and going... and going...
Some examples: One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Detective Conan, Dragon Ball ( Z ), Pocket Monsters (Pokemon). stupid villain trio The anime features a trio of villains that never seem to have a plan go right for them. They tend to bicker among themselves.
Usually they will create some mecha or vehicle that is outlandish, only to have it somehow explode or malfunction. Or they may just be clueless bandits. tournament A competition involving a large number or participants. Such competitions may range from friendly, moderated sporting events to anything-goes, all-out fights to the death.
All participants take part in the tournament in want or need of the final goal and possible prizes; which depending on genre, may range from a boastful record at school to great riches and/or the granting of a wish.
Depending on the type of tournament, contestants will either act alone, be permitted a team, or construct a team of chance throughout the ongoing competition.
