The legendary swordsmith Shikizaki Kiki made 1000 swords in his career. The more swords a state had, the greater success they had in the wars. When the Shogun emerged victorious, he collected 988 of the swords...but those were just practice.
The final twelve swords were the pinnacle of his career. Each of them has powers so extraordinary, one man could defeat small armies.
Shogunate strategist Togame has been ordered to recover them. She first hired a ninja...but the worth of the swords is so great the entire ninja clad defected the moment they recovered one. Then she hired a swordsman...but he kept the sword for himself.
Her last hope is Shichika, the seventh and last practitioner of the Kyotoryuu -- No Sword School. He and his sister live on an island cut off from civilization -- they have no need for money. His sword school does not use swords -- he would not want the swords for himself.
So why should he help her?
"Because you will fall in love with me."
Categories Action Action anime usually involve a fairly straightforward story of good guys versus bad guys, where most disputes are resolved by using physical force. It often contains a lot of shooting, explosions and fighting. Adventure Adventures are exciting stories, with new experiences or exotic locales. Adventures are designed to provide an action-filled, energetic experience for the viewer. Rather than the predominant emphasis on violence and fighting that is found in pure action anime, however, the viewer of adventures can live vicariously through the travels, conquests, explorations, creation of empires, struggles and situations that confront the main characters, actual historical figures or protagonists. Under the category of adventures, we can include traditional swashbucklers, serialized films, and historical spectacles, searches or expeditions for lost continents, "jungle" and "desert" epics, treasure hunts and quests, disaster films, and heroic journeys or searches for the unknown. Adventure films are often set in an historical period, and may include adapted stories of historical or literary adventure heroes, kings, battles, rebellion, or piracy. Alternative History An anime that takes place in an alternative past is an anime that clearly does not belong to the future or the present, and isn`t tied particularly closely to our history, or has ties to our history but only as a premise: there are too many things that don`t make sense for the time-period. In some cases there is futuristic technology present, but the overall setting still feels that of the past. However the setting must still take place on Earth, since we can not know if the history of a fantasy world is an alternate one or not. Ecchi Ecchi, or etchi (エッチ), is a common Japanese word meaning "indecent", "lewd", "frisky" or "sexy", while its usage can be compared to the word "naughty". The term is used when vague sexual content, such as skimpy clothing or nudity, is prominent. Fantasy Magic and other supernatural forms are primary elements of plot, theme and/or setting. Distinguished from science fiction and horror by not involving scientific or macabre themes respectively, though the three genres can often overlap each other to some extent. Fantasy World A fantasy world is a type of imaginary world, part of a fictional universe. Typical worlds involve, but are not limited to magic or magical abilities and a medieval theme. Some worlds may be a parallel world tenuously connected to Earth via magical portals or items; a fictional Earth set in the remote past or future; or an entirely independent world set in another universe. Many fantasy worlds draw heavily on real world history, geography and sociology, and also on folklore. Martial Arts Characterized by extensive fighting scenes employing various types of martial arts, meaning systems of codified practices and traditions of training for combat. Original Work: Novel Note that novel means book with words in paper, so no comics and no "visual novels", which should go under manga and dating-sim - visual Novel/erotic game respectively.
Note that it can be applied to novels as we know them but also the typical light novels for teens and young adults, which are common in Japan and aside from being short include a number of illustrations. Romance Romance describes a story that deals with love between two or more characters typically also having an optimistic ending. Romance is also a difficulty encountered when creating a harem. Seinen A subset of anime or manga that is generally targeted at a 18 - 25 year old male audience, but the audience can be much older with some manga aimed at businessmen well into their 40s. Super Power Be it an ancient Greek Hercules, a cybernetic muscle-man, or a fourteen year-old girl in a mini-skirted sailor suit. As long as they have super powers, they`re in the show. Swordplay The act or art of using a sword or similar weapon skillfully. Tags 90 percent talk 100 percent awesome Works by Nishio Ishin tend to be dialogue heavy, especially in regard to reflecting the conventions of the medium (e.g. anime) within the medium itself. artistic The anime depicts a special sense of taste, of refined aesthetics. artistic visualization Visualization in an artistic manner - "artistic decoration". Where visualization is any technique for creating images, diagrams, or animations to communicate a message. awesome animation Describes the style of an animation production that deems itself respectfully noteworthy for its impressive uniqueness of appearance and attention, emphasis, or exaggeration to all or specific characteristics, constructions and details that make it so recognizable. boy meets girl A classical type of plot in story writing, where the story begins with a boy meeting a girl leading to romantic development between the two. More often than not the boy loses the girl later on and has to find her again. calling your attacks "GIGAAAAAA DRIIIIIILLL BREAKEEEEEERRR"
Having a special attack is always a must but not impressive enough. Every special attack needs a name. A really awesome and outstanding name which is easy to remember and even easier and impressive to yell. Because it just is not enough to name your attack. No, to unleash the full power of your attack, you have to call its name in your most MANLY and LOUDEST voice.
It does not matter whether it is a martial arts move, a magical spell or flying drills from your mecha, if you can`t call its name, it just isn`t nearly as cool or effective. Not a requirement but wearing shades while calling your attack makes it at least twice as cool, moreover giving your mecha or magical companion shades too results in an immeasurable level of awesomeness, bringing down every enemy just through the POWER OF YOUR VOICE.
A standard feature of practically every mecha, mahou shoujo, high fantasy, or martial arts anime. character driven This anime concentrates on creating attractive characters, its plot and story play only secondary roles. dialogue driven The plot of the anime is advanced by interesting and intriguing dialogues. Action is clearly of very much lower priority. ED variety Each episode has different ED song. epic Epic is all about scale. Whether it is the vastness of the anime’s universe, the grandeur of the protagonist’s heroic journey, or the anime’s over-the-top, pulse-pounding visual style — when the anime becomes larger than life and draws the viewer in with an overwhelming sense of awe, it can be described simply as Epic. gotta catch `em all A typical plot or sub-plot for many shows. Either the cast or somebody else, that being often the main antagonist, embarks on a quest to collect things, shiny things. Things that are said to grant simple wishes or even do miracles like bringing people back to life, destroying the whole world, galaxy, universe and in rare cases turning the hero into the greatest Pokemon Master. Those things can be weapons, lost technology, magical artefacts, pieces of a giant magical artefact and in some cases even people or little critters.
The point is, there`s stuff to collect! great soundtrack The anime soundtrack is noteworthy. great voice acting The seiyū (voice actors) have done a great job with their talented voices. They breathe life into the character they represent as though expressing their very selves through their animated counter-part. hair scarf no description set yet heterochromia Heterochromia Iridis is a medical condition, where an individual has at least an eye with more than one colour or two eyes of entirely different colours.
However, in most anime characters with different eye-colour may not necessarily have the medical condition itself, as the state of different-coloured eyes can be caused by various other reasons such as possession by spiritual entities, indication of special powers or artificial changes.
Can also describe instances of portraying everyday scenery with unusual colours to draw attention or set a certain mood. high degree of perfection Everything in this anime is nearly perfect - animation, voice acting, music, characters, overall plot, scenario, dialogues, humour, action scenes, etc. maple head Head is shaped like a maple leaf. nearly almighty protagonist Man 1: "Hey man, did you see me take down that guy over there, there`s no way he could have survived that!" Man 2: "Yeah I know what you mean, it would take the strength of 1 million men to be able to ..... HE`S GETTING BACK UP!!?!?" *synonymous jaws dropping*
This anime`s main character is comparable to the gods themselves in terms of resistibility, strength and/or downright bad-assery. Whenever they seem as if the fire inside has burnt out, they rise from the ashes with enough tenacity and ferocity to vanquish any foe that dare stand against them. overly cute catchphrase Mostly a sound or neologism used by characters to make them look cute or `moe` to the viewer. Examples would be Misuzu`s `gao` in AIR, Sakura`s `hoe` in Card Captor Sakura, Suiseiseki`s `desu` in Rozen Maiden or Ayu`s `uguu` in Kanon (as well as several other characters in the same show). seeking protagonist The main character has a main objective that is referenced to through the whole series; he is in search of something, or someone
Should it be treasure, friends, money, power or all of the above nothing will stop our lead character in his quest to find his passion sword One or more weapons that are sharp and pointy, go swoosh and cut things into many pieces are used in this anime.
Not to be confused with "s-words". tsundere A character type (usually female), who is often easily agitated or combative, but other times is quite kind and caring, especially in situations involving a person they are (knowingly or unknowingly) attracted to. unusual artwork The artwork (backgrounds, or character designs) differ from what is commonly shown in contemporary anime. This can either mean that the style is different (e.g. the large-eyed cute bishoujo are drawn much more realistically), or simply point at the fact that the artwork is "exceptionally more beautiful" than normal.
