Kamiyama Samatarou is not just an average high-school boy. The truth is that he is the son of a god, his mother is a goddess and his sisters are candidates to become goddesses. They are living in the human world, because they want Samatarou to learn about human customs and their habits, so that he can become a better god.
Tenko is an angel assigned to look after Samatarou. She was born at the same time as Samatarou and they have always been close friends. Life seems normal, but things start to change with the appearance of a transfer student named Komori Kumiko. Samatarou falls in love with her and things begin to change for him. He decides to make her his girlfriend — without the godly powers the rest of his family possesses. Now if only his family would stop trying to be so helpful...

Angels
A supernatural being, said to be the messenger of God. They are often depicted as human beings with a pair of white feathered wings and sometimes with a halo.
Asia
Asia is the world`s largest and most populous continent.
Boing
The sound breasts make when they bounce. Size may vary, but mainly involves larger breasts in tight or otherwise sexy clothing. Partial or complete exposure may occur, usually emphasizing the boing-effect as they come out. Not capable of bouncing means no boing.
Comedy
Anime whose central struggle causes hilarious results. These stories are built upon funny characters, situations and events. A comedy anime is laced with humour and sets out to provoke laughter from the audience.
Japanese humour can be a bit strange to westerners, so if you`re new to this type of humour, just bear with it; it`ll most likely grow on you if you`re a fan of other kinds of comedy.
Contemporary Fantasy
Magic and supernatural beings exist secretly in what is generally regarded as the real world. Such elements may have originated from another world. Stories where a modern-day character travels to an alternate fantasy world are not considered contemporary fantasy.
Cooking
Anime in the cooking genre will centre on the production of different kinds of food, including baking, but also gourmet meals and anything in between.
Demons
Often described as minions from Hell. Generally known to attack humans and feast on their flesh or possess the bodies of those with weak souls.
Earth
That big mud ball that most of us live on.
Ecchi
Ecchi, or etchi (エッチ), is a common Japanese word meaning "indecent", "lewd", "frisky" or "sexy", while its usage can be compared to the word "naughty". The term is used when vague sexual content, such as skimpy clothing or nudity, is prominent.
Fantasy
Magic and other supernatural forms are primary elements of plot, theme and/or setting. Distinguished from science fiction and horror by not involving scientific or macabre themes respectively, though the three genres can often overlap each other to some extent.
Goddesses
A goddess is a female deity. Often deities are part of a polytheistic system that includes several deities in a pantheon. Common associations of goddesses are the Earth, the Mother, Love, and the household, reflecting historical gender roles.
High School
The upper-secondary education (not compulsory in Japan) covers the grades ten, eleven, and twelve. The students are typically fifteen to eighteen years old.
Anime centre on High School settings predominately: Plot/story-wise the coming of age is of interest - the students are almost adults (their bodies have matured, see ecchi anime) with more earnest, real-life problems.
Japan
Last stronghold for humanity, if Tokyo falls, it`s all over. Tokyo tower will undoubtedly fall anyway.
Large Breasts
Focus on larger than average breasts. Pretty common in anime. Usually involves adolescent girls or fully grown women.
Love Polygon
A love polygon refers to a romantic relationship involving n people. Although a love triangle is not limited to just heterosexual relationships, in anime, it usually deals with two females liking one male and vice versa.
Magic
In a traditional Fantasy anime with medieval setting, the lack of technology is "compensated" by the introduction of the supernatural, i.e. spell-casting, magic wands, and magic circles.
In another setting long-lost technology may be so advanced that it is mistaken for magic (Arthur C. Clarke: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic"). See also related tag: science and magic coexist.
Original Work: Novel
Note that novel means book with words in paper, so no comics and no "visual novels", which should go under manga and dating-sim - visual Novel/erotic game respectively.
Note that it can be applied to novels as we know them but also the typical light novels for teens and young adults, which are common in Japan and aside from being short include a number of illustrations.
Plot Continuity
Consistency of the characteristics of persons, plot, objects, places and events seen by the viewer.
A single linear focused plot is highly continuous.
A truly random plot is highly discontinuous.
Romance
Romance describes a story that deals with love between two or more characters typically also having an optimistic ending.
School Life
Since a large part of the anime audience still takes part in school life or is visiting college, it is only natural to choose a setting the audience can identify with, be it elementary, middle, or high school. For the older viewers a college setting with more mature real-life problems is appropriate. And since clubs take up so much time in the lives of students, these are obviously also important.
Seinen
A subset of anime or manga that is generally targeted at a 18 - 25 year old male audience, but the audience can be much older with some manga aimed at businessmen well into their 40s.
Slapstick
Slapstick humour is generally recognized by lots of physical abuse, horseplay and practical jokes. Also often seen are impossible situations, using sounds to illustrate impossible stunts that aren`t shown on-screen and to create tension for audience anticipation.
Stereotypes
Then there is the question of the character set presentation. Is it completely original, or is it your usual stereotypical character cast. Both choices have their merit, for example it would not really make much sense to reinvent the wheel for a harem anime. Fans of that genre come to expect their favourite stereotype protagonists.
Time: Present
Somewhere between past and future
Violence
Physical force against self or other, compelling action against one`s will on pain of being hurt.
Tags
abused animal companion
The often cute animal companions (sidekicks) have to endure frequent abuse from their "masters".
This can be for comedic reasons (slapstick), but may just as well be due to a violent outbreak of a deranged protagonist.
boobs in your face
The protagonists face is pressed into a female`s cleavage. This may be accidental, or actually intended by the female character.
childhood friend
Plot device: The usually main protagonist encounters or "lives with" a friend from childhood times. By default they have a very close relationship that usually interferers with other present-day relations.
Typical scenarios: Male protagonist has been looked after by the female childhood friend ever since they were kids, representing the default "girlfriend" in a harem anime. Or the childhood friend has been away in some other city or foreign country and suddenly returns surprising the main protagonist, who had almost forgotten about this friend (as in "Sudden Girlfriend Appearance"). In the latter case, protagonist and friend may be bound by some unreasonable "childhood promise".
cosplay
The act of dressing or disguising oneself as (but not limited to) a character, occupation, animal, or a combination of such things that are non relative to what would be considered natural characteristics of them.
Well known feminine cosplay examples consist of (but not nearly limited to) rare yet honorary or well respected occupations such as nurses, maids or shrine-priestesses. with the most portrayed animal crossover being the infamous cat-girl. Character cosplays consist primarily of characters from anime, manga, or video-games.
Engrish
Engrish is actually a mispronunciation of English, as can be the result of someone who does not have English as their primary language of origin (such as Japanese or Chinese). Occasionally characters in the original Japanese dialogue version of an anime will speak in English... however; this often still requires the assistance of subtitles, for while the words are meant to be said in English, the sentence structure and letter pronunciation may still be strongly relative to the person`s primary language.
extreme wackiness
The anime is not just a bit on the hysterical side, it is totally whacked out and over the top. A large amount of quick dialogues and much slapstick violence move the plot forward at a reckless pace.
All this can be hilarious, but may also make the anime hard to follow and potentially annoying after some time.
lingerie
The exposure of frilly (female) underwear plays a part in this anime. This could either be an ecchi element (think "paper clothes"), or may well be "job" clothing (e.g. a kinky super-heroine outfit).
This often also goes along with the shopping for lingerie, i.e. additional ecchi potential.
living together with god
no description set yet
naked apron
A character wearing nothing but an apron appears in the show.
Though this will usually be a female character, in rare cases this can also be a male character.
pool episode
An episode playing at the pool, mostly in school, sometimes outside of it when the cast does not have a chance for a beach episode.
Usually used for fanservice purpose as it gives the staff the opportunity to draw the characters in swimsuits and raise the DVD sales.
The cheap version of the beach episode.
Other variants are the onsen episode and the sentou episode.
poor girl
A young female character is financially in dire straits.
Since Japan is a rich country, this is often a form of "hidden" poverty — a poverty that can not be admitted.
If not financial, the protagonist may still have to endure other hardship.
randomness
The anime does not follow a predictable storyline. New, strange, obscure, or otherwise unexpected story elements are introduced at a whim.
skimpy clothing
The characters are wearing skimpy clothing (short dresses, underwear, or otherwise revealing clothing) for no apparent reason.
This is *not* job related, like a superhero outfit, differing from the Tag: "skimpy clothing most fit for the job".
swimsuit
At least one female character is wearing a swimsuit in this anime. Probably either at the beach or the school`s pool. And if the anime is ecchi the swimsuit will be daring!
transfer student
If the anime has a school setting, chances are good that a transfer student (male or female) will appear.
tsundere
A character type (usually female), who is often easily agitated or combative, but other times is quite kind and caring, especially in situations involving a person they are (knowingly or unknowingly) attracted to.
Note: There is a "male tsundere" tag for males.
under one roof
For some flimsy reason the main protagonist (e.g. male in harem / female in reverse-harem) is living together with many other (female/male) characters under the same roof, i.e. apartment, house, or mansion.
violent female lead
The female main character - though possibly quite cute and "nice" at times - is prone to violent behaviour, usually against some male character(s).
violent retribution for ecchi behaviour
One of the central vehicles of slapstick comedy with ecchi elements.
When one char misbehaves, or at least is perceived to do so, he/she gets reprimanded or whacked by another char - typically a tsundere - for ecchi (slightly perverted) behaviour. In this case it is *not* a reaction to *accidental* infringement, like tripping into cleavage.
As Asu no Yoichi! shows, the supposed "ecchi behaviour" of the male protagonist can also be over-interpreted by a tsundere. E.g. getting whacked for a nosebleed, when looking at a cute girl.
zettai ryouiki
Japanese for "absolute area", and refers to an area of bare skin on the legs between a skirt and knee- or thigh high stockings.
