A mystery begins to unravel — tracing back to happenings five years ago. As Keiichi learns more about these strange events, he wonders if he will be able to face the truth behind all of this.
Categories
Angst
A feeling of general discomfort and uneasiness is present due to either trivial or more serious reasons, often accompanied by depression.
Asia
Asia is the world`s largest and most populous continent.
Comedy
Anime whose central struggle causes hilarious results. These stories are built upon funny characters, situations and events. A comedy anime is laced with humour and sets out to provoke laughter from the audience.
Japanese humour can be a bit strange to westerners, so if you`re new to this type of humour, just bear with it; it`ll most likely grow on you if you`re a fan of other kinds of comedy.
Detective
It focuses on the efforts of the Detective, private investigator or amateur sleuth to solve the mysterious circumstances of a crime by means of clues, investigation, and clever deduction. The successful mystery film often conceals the identity of the perpetrator until late in the story, then adds an element of suspense during the apprehension of the suspect.
Earth
That big mud ball that most of us live on.
Ecchi
Ecchi, or etchi (エッチ), is a common Japanese word meaning "indecent", "lewd", "frisky" or "sexy", while its usage can be compared to the word "naughty". The term is used when vague sexual content, such as skimpy clothing or nudity, is prominent.
Horror
The horror cinematic genre is characterized by the attempt to make the viewer experience dread, fear, terror, or horror. Often their plots involve the intrusion of an evil force, event or personage, sometimes of supernatural origin, on the mundane world and the consequences thereof.
Japan
Last stronghold for humanity, if Tokyo falls, it`s all over. Tokyo tower will undoubtedly fall anyway.
Middle School
Also referred to as junior high school (or lower-secondary education; compulsory in Japan) covers the grades seven, eight, and nine. The students are typically twelve to fifteen years old.
Anime with school setting centre on Middle School students when younger, possibly more naive and `innocent` (less worldly wise) characters are required.
Original Work: Dating Sim - Visual Novel
The two terms are similar yet different, however, the fact that they look and `feel` the same outweighs the technical differences. For clarification, visual novels are considered a sub-genre of adventure games and the term does not cover simulations. While the two genres often share a common visual presentation, dating sims are sometimes considered to be more statistically based than the "choose your own adventure" style of visual novels; basically, the choices you make might change something else than just the story arc (or your next porn pic). Dating sims can involve several technical elements such as a time limit, several statistics such as looks and charm which can be boosted through exercise, or an "attraction meter" which can increase or decrease depending on one`s decisions.
Original Work: Game
Based on an interactive (even if minimally so) form of entertainment software, generally available for PCs, consoles or arcade machines.
Pantsu
"Panties" in Japanese. Upskirt views in various positions are typical, however all forms of partial or fully exposed panties are accepted. Exposure is usually accidental, but may also be deliberate. Pantsu views may be exclusive to the viewer without impacting any characters. Bikinis are not pantsu.
Plot Continuity
Consistency of the characteristics of persons, plot, objects, places and events seen by the viewer.
A single linear focused plot is highly continuous.
A truly random plot is highly discontinuous.
School Life
Since a large part of the anime audience still takes part in school life or is visiting college, it is only natural to choose a setting the audience can identify with, be it elementary, middle, or high school. For the older viewers a college setting with more mature real-life problems is appropriate. And since clubs take up so much time in the lives of students, these are obviously also important.
Seinen
A subset of anime or manga that is generally targeted at a 18 - 25 year old male audience, but the audience can be much older with some manga aimed at businessmen well into their 40s.
Slapstick
Slapstick humour is generally recognized by lots of physical abuse, horseplay and practical jokes. Also often seen are impossible situations, using sounds to illustrate impossible stunts that aren`t shown on-screen and to create tension for audience anticipation.
Thriller
The thriller is a genre of fiction in which tough, resourceful, but essentially ordinary heroes are pitted against villains determined to destroy them, their country, or the stability of the free world. The hero of a typical thriller faces danger alone or in the company of a small band of companions. The protagonist may be a law enforcement agent, a journalist, or a soldier, but typically he or she is cut off from the resources of "their" organization. More often the hero is an ordinary citizen drawn into danger and intrigue by circumstances beyond their control. (Source: Wikipedia)
Time: Past
Anime that takes place in the past or clearly seems to take place in the past in case of an alternative universe. This category should almost always go together with one of its sub-categories, because the past can either be a depiction of a historical event(s) or not, in which case it would be alternative past.
Tragedy
Tragedy is a form of drama characterized by seriousness and dignity, usually involving a conflict between a character and some higher power, such as the law, the gods, fate, or society.
Twisted
Twisted indicates more than one abrupt change in plot or story. This derivation from strict linear storytelling usually makes these anime hard to follow, and at times even very confusing when several parallel plots intertwine.
Underworld
The underworld we talk about here is not to be confused with the place where people are believed to go after they die, but the general term for organized crime. It is a shady world, unknown to most people, where illegal things like murder, smuggling, drug dealing and similar are happening daily. Groups known to be acting in this world are for example the mafia or the yakuza.
Violence
Physical force against self or other, compelling action against one`s will on pain of being hurt.
Yakuza
Yakuza, also known as the Japanese Mafia, refers to traditional organized crime groups in Japan and members thereof. They have a hierarchical structure, with the "oyabun", the family head, standing on top. They also have their own code, the "jingi", where loyalty and respect are a way of life.
Yakuza members are identifiable for their, often full-body, tattoos and missing fingers, a result of the yubitsume ritual, which is a form of penance or apology.

a god am I
Usually when a character gains powers above that of the rest of the world, or most of it, he starts to believe it is his destiny to lead the human race or at least part of it. This is when the god-complex is kicking in, often drawing him far from his initial (good) intentions.
A device that many anime villains fall prey to.
awesome storyline
The storyline is intriguingly crafted: The suspense will keep you at the edge of your seat, the plot twists will very much surprise, the character development is both convincing, and entertaining.
This is how anime should be!
death stare
At least one character stares in a psycho, murderous way towards another living thing - another character, generally, but sometimes animals, or others. Such stare usually hints the character may be deranged, possessed by some evil spirit or god of sorts, or want very much to kill the living thing they stare at. If the stare receivers are aware of it, they generally feel a strong fear, often getting paralyzed, unless they are very skilled fighters themselves.
dementia
Serious emotional and mental deterioration of organic or functional origin, often age-related.
disturbing
Watching the show may cause the viewer to have unpleasant feelings.
gore
Very violent scenes appear in the show. Don`t be surprised to see people dying in a violent and painful way.
Oh, and with lots and lots of blood splattering all over the place.
great opening
This anime contains a wonderful use of animation and/or vocals during the opening theme.
junkies in the alley with a baseball bat

mind fuck
A `mind fuck` is a slang term which describes a work that uses literary devices such as nonlinear storytelling and plot twists in order to present convoluted, yet not conflicting, themes. A creation is usually considered a mind fuck when a casual observer is not able to discern the true meaning of a work without making a serious attempt to unravel the themes presented or when the plot is incredibly difficult to follow. Special examples of mind fucks involve a single plot twist which completely changes the viewer`s understanding of the events in a film or novel as well as the ideas it presents.

The mystery film is a sub-genre of the more general category of crime film. It focuses on the efforts of the detective, private investigator or amateur sleuth to solve the mysterious circumstances of a crime by means of clues, investigation, and clever deduction. (Source: Wikipedia)

not for kids
This anime contains themes definitely NOT suitable for kids (e.g. rape, gory dismemberment, suicide, etc.).
overly cute catchphrase
Mostly a sound or neologism used by characters to make them look cute or `moe` to the viewer. Examples would be Misuzu`s `gao` in AIR, Sakura`s `hoe` in Card Captor Sakura, Suiseiseki`s `desu` in Rozen Maiden or Ayu`s `uguu` in Kanon (as well as several other characters in the same show).
parental abandonment
In Japan it is a common custom for parents to leave their children alone at home and embark on a lifelong trip around the world once they hit the tender age of 14, sometimes even earlier.
phone booth murder
A typical device in detective stories, where an informant is killed in a phone booth. Incidentally, that usually happens right before he is able to deliver important information, most often even killed just before he/she could utter the last few vitally important words, which would reveal everything.
As mobile phones have become common, the number of phone boxes has declined sharply, as did the number of murders in them.
