Based on Idea Factory's Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan romance adventure game aimed at female players.

Categories Bakumatsu - Meiji Era "Bakumatsu" (幕末, "Late Tokugawa Shogunate") occurred between 1853 and 1867 during which Japan ended its isolationist foreign policy and modernized from a feudal shogunate to the Meiji government. Bakumatsu represents the final years of the Edo period (when the Tokugawa shogunate ended) and preceded the Meiji era. The primary historical significance of Bakumatsu was the conflict between the pro-imperialist "Ishin Shishi" ("nationalist patriots"), and the shogunate forces, including the elite Shinsengumi ("New Selected Corps"). The Meiji Era (including Meiji Restoration) denotes the 45-year reign of Emperor Meiji, running from 23 October 1868 to 30 July 1912. During this time, Japan started its modernization and rose to world-power status. Be aware that this category should only be assigned to anime that take place in Japan during the years mentioned above, and not to every anime that has samurai in it. Bishounen Young man whose beauty (and sexual appeal) transcends the boundary of gender or sexual orientation. Harem Harem anime is when three or more females that for some reason are in the presence of one male as a central plot element. Generally, both the girls` looks and personalities vary a lot, and most of them are interested in the one guy. Sometimes, none of the girls are really interested at first, so the protagonist has to build relationships with them. Ecchi pretty much can`t be avoided, and it`s typical to see the protagonist stamped as a pervert by some of the girls, whether he is one or not. A lot of harem anime were originally Visual Novels, since most Visual Novels revolve around controlling this one guy, trying to build a relationship with several girls. In a story where there is one female and several good looking males it`s a "reverse harem" or "male harem". Historical Historical anime have clear ties to our history and usually occur in a particular epoch. Japan Last stronghold for humanity, if Tokyo falls, it`s all over. Tokyo tower will undoubtedly fall anyway. Original Work: Dating Sim - Visual Novel The two terms are similar yet different, however, the fact that they look and `feel` the same outweighs the technical differences. For clarification, visual novels are considered a sub-genre of adventure games and the term does not cover simulations. While the two genres often share a common visual presentation, dating sims are sometimes considered to be more statistically based than the "choose your own adventure" style of visual novels; basically, the choices you make might change something else than just the story arc (or your next porn pic). Dating sims can involve several technical elements such as a time limit, several statistics such as looks and charm which can be boosted through exercise, or an "attraction meter" which can increase or decrease depending on one`s decisions. Original Work: Game Based on an interactive (even if minimally so) form of entertainment software, generally available for PCs, consoles or arcade machines. Romance Romance describes a story that deals with love between two or more characters typically also having an optimistic ending. Romance is also a difficulty encountered when creating a harem. Samurai The samurai were the military nobility in pre-industrial Japan. By the end of the 12th century, samurai became almost entirely synonymous with bushi (武士). The samurai followed a set of written rules called the Bushidou. Samurai teachings can still be found today in modern day society with the martial art Kendou, meaning the way of the sword. This Anime will include one or more sword-carrying/wielding warriors. Swordplay The act or art of using a sword or similar weapon skillfully. Time: Past Anime that takes place in the past or clearly seems to take place in the past in case of an alternative universe. This category should almost always go together with one of its sub-categories, because the past can either be a depiction of a historical event(s) or not, in which case it would be alternative past. Traps A male character often mistaken as a female by other characters and/or the viewer due to his feminine appearance, behaviour, and/or language (regardless of his intention). Violence Physical force against self or other, compelling action against one`s will on pain of being hurt. Depictions of oni vary widely but usually portray them as hideous, gigantic creatures with sharp claws, wild hair, and two long horns growing from their heads They are humanoid for the most part, but occasionally, they are shown with unnatural features such as odd numbers of eyes or extra fingers and toes. Their skin may be any number of colors, but red and blue are particularly common. physical examination A comedy element with ecchi potential in your typical school setting: The (especially female) cast is measured for weight, height and other measurements by the school’s nurse.
The female cast may then be upset about the lack of “development” in certain areas, or shocked about a perceived weight gain. The male cast on the other hand will try to “sneak a peek”. poorly directed The direction in this anime, supposedly, leaves something to be desired. predominantly male cast The anime features a mostly male cast, i.e. female characters are rare.

This may come as all the more surprising, when a TV series or OVA sports the quality usually only associated with expensive anime movies. weak female lead The female lead is quite weak and seems to have trouble protecting herself physically.
Or she may be lacking in character, i.e. caves in to everything, does not have much of a will of her own. worthless main character Worthless, yeah you know it too well!
During your trip throughout the world of anime, you tend to see all kinds of characters and the most annoying most painful is the "worthless main character".
Worthless main character is usually a "he" and is weak, annoying, painful to watch (yet the girls want him?!) and you always feel that you wanna punch him too as the rest of the main cast (thank god for slapstick!)
If you don`t get annoyed by the "worthless main character", then you are a kind and good person by the heart (good for you!)
