Ten years ago, a bizarre phenomenon appeared in Tokyo. Three days later, two types of humans with supernatural abilities appeared: emotionless 'dolls' that only do what they're 'programmed' to and wield the ability of surveillance, and powerful 'contractors', feared and hated by the humans that know of their existence. Rationally self-preserving and without the feeling of guilt, it's not long before contractors are used as ideal assassins and weapons of war.
Unable to analyze the phenomenon that created these beings safely, it's decided that a huge wall be built around it, called "Hell's Gate." PANDORA, an international research group, protects this wall and analyzes what little they can, while the government struggles to suppress dangerous contractors and the publics' knowledge of them.
In all the police force's efforts and doll-assisted surveillance of the city, one contractor continues to evade them. 'BK201', as the police force knows him, stands out as an exceptional killer, while those in the syndicate who know him as 'Hei' see him as a powerful, yet strangely irrational contractor...

Action Action anime usually involve a fairly straightforward story of good guys versus bad guys, where most disputes are resolved by using physical force. It often contains a lot of shooting, explosions and fighting. Angst A feeling of general discomfort and uneasiness is present due to either trivial or more serious reasons, often accompanied by depression.
Warning: may contain copious amounts of brooding and sighing. Asia Asia is the world`s largest and most populous continent. Conspiracy The conspiracy thriller (or paranoid thriller) is a sub-genre of the thriller which flourished in the 1970s in the US (and was echoed in other parts of the world) in the wake of a number of high-profile scandals and controversies (most notably Vietnam, the assassination of President Kennedy, Chappaquiddick and Watergate), and which exposed what many people regarded as the clandestine machinations and conspiracies beneath the orderly fabric of political life.
The protagonists of conspiracy thrillers are often journalists or amateur investigators who find themselves (often inadvertently) pulling on a small thread which unravels a vast conspiracy that ultimately goes "all the way to the top". Cooking Anime in the cooking genre will centre on the production of different kinds of food, including baking, but also gourmet meals and anything in between. They make billions of dollars a year from such crimes as making and selling illegal drugs, money laundering, from stealing, gambling and prostitution. Martial Arts Characterized by extensive fighting scenes employing various types of martial arts, meaning systems of codified practices and traditions of training for combat. Nudity Nudity is the state of wearing no clothing and exposing the bare skin or intimate parts.
Especially gratuitous fanservice shows tend to show their characters frequently without any clothes, though often hiding genitals through the means of additions like steam. Original Work: New Not based on anything, the story is a new work, usually made up by the people involved in creating the anime. Generally if an original work (原作) credit is given, it will be to the studio, or director, or other members of the production team. Plot Continuity Consistency of the characteristics of persons, plot, objects, places and events seen by the viewer.
A single linear focused plot is highly continuous.
A truly random plot is highly discontinuous. Post-apocalyptic An anime that takes place on future Earth (or it could be an alternative universe) after a major cataclysm has occurred. World War III, an alien invasion, plague, global warming or some other general disaster are common themes to build a post-apocalyptic world upon, where the effects were severe enough that mankind barely survived. Sci-Fi Science fiction stories usually focus on how situations could be different in the future when we are more technologically advanced; due to either our own achievements or having met with other civilizations whom we have learned from. Seinen A subset of anime or manga that is generally targeted at a 18 - 25 year old male audience, but the audience can be much older with some manga aimed at businessmen well into their 40s. Super Power Be it an ancient Greek Heracles, a cybernetic muscle-man, or a fourteen year-old girl in a mini-skirted sailor suit. As long as they have super powers, they`re in the show. Time: Future Anime that fall under the future category are the ones that have a society that could have originated from ours. In most cases it should go hand to hand with sci-fi since we expect the future to consist of advanced technology, however, in the case where it`s explicitly stated in the story that the anime takes place "x years into the future", the state of technology doesn`t matter as long as it`s long into the future. The anime can be set in an alternative universe not tied with our own, as long as it has a futuristic feel to it.
This category sports quite a lot of anime, mostly stemming from SciFi, but not necessarily only from there. Tragedy Tragedy is a form of drama characterized by seriousness and dignity, usually involving a conflict between a character and some higher power, such as the law, the gods, fate, or society. Twisted Twisted indicates more than one abrupt change in plot or story. This derivation from strict linear storytelling usually makes these anime hard to follow, and at times even very confusing when several parallel plots intertwine. Underworld The underworld we talk about here is not to be confused with the place where people are believed to go after they die, but the general term for organized crime. It is a shady world, unknown to most people, where illegal things like murder, smuggling, drug dealing and similar are happening daily. Groups known to be acting in this world are for example the mafia or the yakuza. Violence Physical force against self or other, compelling action against one`s will on pain of being hurt. Yakuza Yakuza, also known as the Japanese Mafia, refers to traditional organized crime groups in Japan and members thereof. They have a hierarchical structure, with the "oyabun", the family head, standing on top. They also have their own code, the "jingi", where loyalty and respect are a way of life.
Yakuza members are identifiable for their, often full-body, tattoos and missing fingers, a result of the yubitsume ritual, which is a form of penance or apology.

antihero The antihero (sometimes `antiheroine` as feminine) is generally considered to be a protagonist whose character is at least in some regards conspicuously contrary to that of the archetypal hero, and is in some instances its antithesis. awesome main character The show`s main characters deserve to be held in awe — this could be for many reasons including but not limited to ability, personality, strength of character.
Which is good. I mean who wants angst ridden brats for main characters these days anyway? cat Independent animal of the feline sort. Not to be confused with dogs. cold-blooded As in "cold-blooded murder". The protagonists do not have any scruples when killing, harming or sacrificing other sentient beings (i.e. humans). contractor In this context, the contractor is usually portrayed as a supernatural being who grants their services for the duration of an agreement (or contract) to the seemingly average person in need, thus making the needy individual their contractee.
The agreement is usually not one made through verbal or written means, but one achieved through strange and unusual circumstances. Once the contract is made, the individuals involved become willing or unwilling partners until death or until a predetermined and ultimate goal is achieved. episodic The episodes do not present a continuous storyline, but an episodic one. The characters and setting stay the same, and each episode (or sub-episodic segment) presents a new short story. falling star no description set yet gore Very violent scenes appear in the show. Don`t be surprised to see people dying in a violent and painful way.
Oh, and with lots and lots of blood splattering all over the place. great animation The anime sports exceptionally well made (smooth, detailed, beautiful) animation. great OP and ED The OP (opening) and ED (ending) sequences contain a strong sense of effort toward impressively utilizing visuals, instrumentals and vocals to captivate an audience.
This has nothing to do with any karaoke effects and styling individual subbers may have added. heterochromia Heterochromia Iridis is a medical condition, where an individual has at least an eye with more than one colour or two eyes of entirely different colours. killing - murdering protagonist The show features protagonists that have no problems at all with the usually dubious act of killing members of their own species.
Heroic characters may decide to kill due to duty or necessity for the so-called greater good. Darker characters may do so for profit or personal gain. neo-noir Neo-noir is a style often seen in modern motion pictures and other forms that prominently utilizes elements of film noir, but with updated themes, content, style, visual elements or media that were absent in films noir of the 1940s and 1950s. not for kids This anime contains themes definitely NOT suitable for kids (e.g. rape, gory dismemberment, suicide, etc.). powerful main character Characters that are so powerful that they can tear apart their foes with ease. These powers may well start off relativity weak, gaining in power as the anime progresses. product placement Otherwise known as a "plug" or "writing commercials right into a show". This can lead to all sorts of amusing misunderstandings, thus is used as comedy element in some anime. seeking protagonist The main character has a main objective that is referenced to through the whole series; he is in search of something, or someone
Should it be treasure, friends, money, power or all of the above nothing will stop our lead character in his quest to find his passion skilled main character The main character in the show is very skilled in one or more tasks, often to the amazement of those around him/her. somewhat materialistic The story shows that everything requires an adequate payment. At some point it can be painful for the character or/and the viewer. special abilities It could be just one individual or it could be the entire population; either way, the presence of a special power/ability is an integral part of this anime. stars Heavenly bodies that twinkle and sparkle in the night sky; sometimes beautifully and serenely, sometimes ominously.
In some way, the plot is related to them. supernatural Things happen in this anime that seem to be beyond nature or physical laws.
Examples: Ghosts, vampires, monsters, telepathy, telekinesis, etc. Tokyo is the centre of the universe Whether it`s the big bad evil aiming for world domination, demons bringing the hell over to this site or aliens attacking the Earth, their centre of attention is always Tokyo, as if the rest of the world did not even exist!
But worry not if you happen to live there, because your neighbour could just be the leader of a senshi team or the pilot of a giant mecha and they are surely going to save the day again.
