The main character Tohno Shiki, was involved in a major accident in his childhood. He was so severely injured that people thought he was dead, but he miraculously survived. However, due to that incident, Shiki is sent away from the Tohno household and is entrusted into the care of a distant relative's family.
There was a secret to Shiki. Ever since the accident -- lines at which things break easily could be seen. If a blade could be passed through the lines, anything could easily be severed.
Troubled with this ability, young Shiki is given a pair of glasses by a lady he meets (Shiki calls her "Teacher"), which stops the "lines of death" from being seen. Thanks to that, Shiki was able to live normally up until now. And he was planning to live normally from now on.
But then, a letter arrives for Shiki. The head of the Tohno Household - his father's household - has died. By orders of the new head of the household, he must return at once to the Tohno house.
This story begins when Shiki, now a High School Student, returns to the Tohno Household.

School Life Since a large part of the anime audience still takes part in school life or is visiting college, it is only natural to choose a setting the audience can identify with, be it elementary, middle, or high school. For the older viewers a college setting with more mature real-life problems is appropriate. And since clubs take up so much time in the lives of students, these are obviously also important. Seinen A subset of anime or manga that is generally targeted at a 18 - 25 year old male audience, but the audience can be much older with some manga aimed at businessmen well into their 40s. Super Power Be it an ancient Greek Heracles, a cybernetic muscle-man, or a fourteen year-old girl in a mini-skirted sailor suit. As long as they have super powers, they`re in the show. Time: Present Somewhere between past and future Tragedy Tragedy is a form of drama characterized by seriousness and dignity, usually involving a conflict between a character and some higher power, such as the law, the gods, fate, or society. Vampires A super-human species, with long fangs used to penetrate the tender neck of young females, to drink blood. Violence Physical force against self or other, compelling action against one`s will on pain of being hurt.
