Watch Saki English subbed anime online for free
Miyanaga Saki is a high school freshman who does not like mahjong. Ever since she was a child, she would lose her New Year’s gift money during her family's mahjong game. If she won, her parents would be upset, and if she lost, well, she lost. As a result, she has learned to play in such a way that her score always remains plus/minus zero: Not good enough to win, but not bad enough to lose. When we meet her, she is being dragged to her school’s mahjong club by an old friend. How will a girl who hates mahjong, yet has become adept at the game as a result of her upbringing, cope in this environment?
Categories
Boing
The sound breasts make when they bounce. Size may vary, but mainly involves larger breasts in tight or otherwise sexy clothing. Partial or complete exposure may occur, usually emphasizing the boing-effect as they come out. Not capable of bouncing means no boing.
Clubs
Even though school clubs in Japan are not mandatory, there is some pressure from the social grid (e.g. fellow students, teachers) to participate in some kind of after-school activity, be it in sports or arts. Colleges also have clubs.
As a comedy element in anime, some students have joined too many clubs, and are thus constantly stressed out. There is also the element of social commentary, making it clear that you have to join a club, if you want to be part of the class. Since self-founded clubs need at least 3 members, the desperate search and advertising for new members can be cause for hilarity in anime.
Ecchi
Ecchi, or etchi (エッチ), is a common Japanese word meaning "indecent", "lewd", "frisky" or "sexy", while its usage can be compared to the word "naughty". The term is used when vague sexual content, such as skimpy clothing or nudity, is prominent.
High School
The upper-secondary education (not compulsory in Japan) covers the grades ten, eleven, and twelve. The students are typically fifteen to eighteen years old.
Anime centre on High School settings predominately: Plot/story-wise the coming of age is of interest - the students are almost adults (their bodies have matured, see ecchi anime) with more earnest, real-life problems.
Original Work: Manga
Manga is the lifeblood that drives the anime industry. Everything and its mother is based on manga. However! There are exceptions where the manga was not the basis for the anime. It`s common practice to make manga adaptations of many popular anime, there`s a manga based on Evangelion, and two (one shounen and one shoujo) based on each of Escaflowne and Mahou Tsukai Tai. Also it`s quite common to release manga and anime versions of a story in parallel, for instance Nadesico and Shoujo Kakumei Utena.
Plot Continuity
Consistency of the characteristics of persons, plot, objects, places and events seen by the viewer.
A single linear focused plot is highly continuous.
A truly random plot is highly discontinuous.
School Life
Since a large part of the anime audience still takes part in school life or is visiting college, it is only natural to choose a setting the audience can identify with, be it elementary, middle, or high school. For the older viewers a college setting with more mature real-life problems is appropriate. And since clubs take up so much time in the lives of students, these are obviously also important.
Seinen
A subset of anime or manga that is generally targeted at a 18 - 25 year old male audience, but the audience can be much older with some manga aimed at businessmen well into their 40s.
Shoujo Ai
Shoujo Ai means girls love, and as such it explores what happens when two girls (or women) fall in love. This is not to be mistaken for Yuri which is a hentai genre. This is not. Meaning no graphical sex.
Time: Present
Somewhere between past and future
Tags
all-female cast
All primary characters are female. Male characters, if any, will only have minor roles or be entirely absent from the story`s focus.
annoying yet lovable loli
The very young female protagonist manifests all the typical attributes of a loli character: High squeaky voice, hyperactive, overly cute, moeblob, etc. Even though this would normally get on the viewers nerves, the loli is still endearing and heart-warming for some reason.
anything can be awesome
Sometimes normal just doesn`t cut it, you need to make it awesome, no matter how mundane it is.
Let`s throw in some gripping orchestral music, lighting changes, different camera angles, something! Don`t write like a man, write like an Evil Overlord! Exaggerate your expressions and gestures, speak with excessive intonation, and if all else fails, throw in some close-ups, slow motion, and Ominous Latin Chanting! With practice, even you can turn something like eating chips into an epic battle of light and dark.
boobs in your face
The protagonists face is pressed into a female`s cleavage. This may be accidental, or actually intended by the female character.
born lucky
A character so mind-bogglingly lucky that it defies all chance. They`ll win every contest or lottery they enter (in especially extreme cases, they don`t even need to, the winning ticket will somehow come to them). Usually a weak explanation is given for this luck, attributing it to some kind of supernatural force but not going into any kind of detail. Example: Milfeulle Sakuraba from Galaxy Angel.
Opposite of: hated by fate
competition
Some sort of confrontation occurs in this show. The protagonists "duke it out" via various competitions.
cute character
At least one of the characters in the anime - probably female - can be termed "cute".
endless battles
Battles or tournament matches that last much longer than needed (compared to other genres) - perhaps even spanning several episodes. Filler scenes are inserted between the action scenes, painfully lengthening the screen time even further. A long roster of characters (main, secondary, even extras) watches the events, expressing their opinions about the development of the match, trying to predict the outcome, explaining the rules to those who do not know them, and showing their amazement by an oh so surprising turn of events.
fanservice
`Fan Service` typically consists of a variety of racy or sexual content - usually female but sometimes male - aimed to catch the viewer`s attention, with something suggestive and generally `pleasing to the eyes`. More often than not this involves nudity, yet can simply have to do with panty shots / flashing of undergarments, bathing suits, the jiggling of breasts, or other such eye candy. While the term is used primarily with respect to Japanese animation, any gratuitous content within entertainment may be considered to be `fan service`.
genius
A gifted and very intelligent character. Usually way smarter than any fellow student of that age.
mahjong
A Chinese board game for four players.
moe
Moe refers to characters (most often female) whose cute, innocent mannerisms and flaws, such as clumsiness or insecurity, result in a strong response of adoration and protectiveness from the viewer. Moe characters may be considered sexy by viewers, though that is not a requirement per se.
nekomimi
Japanese for "cat ears". Usually refers to characters that have cat ears, i.e. cat girls.
nopan
One of the characters appears in the anime bereft of panties.
onsen episode
An onsen is a term for hot springs in the Japanese language, though the term is often used to describe the bathing facilities and inns around the hot springs. Often the cast of a show somehow ends up going to an onsen because of various reasons, such as winning a lottery ticket.
Usually used for fanservice purpose as it gives the staff the opportunity to draw the characters nude and raise the DVD sales.
Another cheap variant is the sentou episode.
tacos
no description set yet
TV censoring
The TV version is censored and later DVD/BD releases are uncensored, so the money-grubbing capitalists can make a couple more bucks at our expense.
yuri subtext
Actions between two female characters that could be taken as or misinterpreted as being amorous in nature.
zettai ryouiki
Japanese for "absolute area", and refers to an area of bare skin on the legs between a skirt and knee- or thigh high stockings.
